Get in Touch About Your Next Route

Whether you are planning a weekend drive from Johannesburg, wondering about gravel conditions on a specific pass, or need advice on where to stay between Cape Town and the Karoo, I am happy to help. Send through your route questions and I will reply with honest, practical notes from the road.

Direct Contact

For route questions, trip planning advice, or feedback on a post, the quickest way is email. I read every message and usually get back within a day or two.

When I Reply

I spend a fair amount of time on the road, so I keep a simple schedule for answering messages.

Monday to Friday 9:00 - 17:00
Saturday 9:00 - 13:00
Sunday Closed

If I am out on a multi-day drive, replies may take a little longer. I will get back to you as soon as I am back on tar.

Find the Office, or Just Ask a Route Question

The desk is in Mpumalanga, but the roads I write about run all over the country. If you are planning a self-drive and want to know whether a pass is worth the detour or which farm stall still bakes properly, drop a line. Route questions get the fastest reply.

Getting Here

The office sits just off the N4, about ten minutes from the Mbombela turn-off. If you are coming from Johannesburg, take the R40 south at the Nelspruit exit and follow the signs toward the Nkuna Groves industrial area. From the Kruger side, it is the same road heading west.

Parking is free in front of the building. There is a coffee shop next door that opens early, so if you arrive before the kettle is on, you will not have to wait long. For GPS, the Nkuna Groves complex is marked on most maps; look for the ochre-coloured building with the cream trim.

A Note on Response Times

I spend a fair amount of time driving gravel roads, so I do not always answer the same day. Route questions sent before Wednesday usually get a reply by Friday. If you are planning a trip and need advice before you book, mention the dates in your message and I will prioritise it.

Route questions, trip planning, or just want to talk roads

If you are working out a self-drive route through the Karoo, wondering whether a gravel pass suits your rental car, or need a sensible weekend itinerary from Johannesburg or Durban, send the details through. I answer most messages within a day or two, usually with a map reference or two and an honest note on road conditions.

What to include in your message

Tell me where you are starting from, how many days you have, and the kind of car you will be driving. If you have a specific pass or gravel road in mind, mention it. That way I can give you a route that fits your time and your vehicle, not a generic suggestion.

Request a callback or send your route question

Leave your number and a short note on the trip you are planning. I will call you back to talk through the options.

I usually reply within 48 hours. If the trip is urgent, mention that in your message and I will try to get back to you sooner.
